Why We Don’t Chase Web Design Awards
Spigot has been designing and developing websites since 2007. In that time we’ve built hundreds of websites and have yet to win a design award. And I doubt we ever will.
What are we doing wrong? Nothing.
Many design agencies tout their ‘award winning design’, in fact, it seems like most do. And that’s fantastic. They most certainly deserve the recognition. So why aren’t we looking to stack up a trophy case? Let’s take a look.
Design Matters
Good design forms the foundation of what we do. Design matters a lot to us. But good design doesn’t automatically equal winning a pile of awards. Would it be cool to win an award? Sure, but it’s not the reason we do the work we do.
We work hard to solve our clients’ web problems, to increase their leads and their business, and to showcase the core of their brand while creating engagement with their customers. Our dedication goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about functionality and user experience. We meticulously craft each project, ensuring it aligns with our clients’ goals and resonates with their audience. We don’t create sites solely to make our portfolio look good, and we certainly don’t spend our clients’ money on cutting-edge but detrimental concepts just to win an award. Our mission is to deliver solutions that provide value, foster growth, and build lasting connections.
Clients Matter
We focus on designing clean, effective, professional sites that solve real-world issues for real-world clients. We care about good site hierarchy, a solid content strategy, and user flows that convert. We care about clean code, mobile-friendliness, usability, and accessibility. We care deeply about serving our clients needs and the only award that matters is hearing a client says something like this:
Spigot did an amazing job on our website! They were incredibly easy to collaborate with and delivered a high-end site that not only looks beautiful but functions well too. We’ve gotten so many compliments from our clients about it. Could not recommend enough.
So yeah, it would be great to win an award, but it will probably never happen. We’re totally okay with that and our clients don’t seem to mind either.
But… Maybe We’re Just Jealous…
It’s certainly possible the only reason to write this is because we have never won an award and we’re sore about it. And to cover those wounds we tell ourselves that we don’t care about winning—we’re just glad to play the game. That would be completely understandable, very much in line with human nature. But here’s the kicker: It’s also possible that we’ve never won an award simply because we’ve never actually entered into an awards competition. So yeah, we may be a little jealous, but maybe we’ve just missed all the shots we were too busy to take.
