Prevent Mission Control from rearranging desktop spaces

By default, OS X rearranges desktop spaces based on usage. If you’re like me and want to keep apps and desktops in nice tight order, here’s how to prevent that:

  1. Launch System Preferences
  2. Open Mission Control
  3. Uncheck: Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use

uncheck-rearrange

I know this is an old tip, but I’ve been befuddled by this since Lion. And have just now fixed it. If you’ve just stumbled across this, let’s celebrate together not having to reset desktops every day.

  1. It\’s weird: I have the same perspective and objective as you on this point, but I cannot stop my spaces from rearranging themselves, EVEN AFTER I do what you mentioned above. It\’s like there is a flaw in my operating system of some variety. My spaces are constantly rearranging themselves, and I hate it!

    1. Michael, I’ve actually had the same issue – every morning my mail app would be in the wrong desktop on the wrong monitor.

I fixed that by assigning it to a space – Click and hold on dock icon and find the options. If it’s set to None, that might be your issue too.
